Volunteer to Help on our Buses

Volunteer Bus Driver and Helper Information

Thank you for your interest in joining our team of bus volunteer drivers and helpers. Please find below some information on these roles and how to apply. We hope to hear from you soon and please do ask if you have any questions.

What bus services do you operate?

We have 3 minibuses, driven by volunteers, which provide door to door transport for our clients from their homes to the venue. The buses are all equipped with a tail-lift. We use the buses for the following services:

  • ·        Transport to the Lunch Club at Twyford House
  • ·        Shopping trips to Waitrose and Lidl
  • ·        Social Outings to local places of interest
  • ·        Hospital trips for clients in wheelchairs

What does volunteering as a bus driver or helper involve?

Our buses are ‘staffed’ by a volunteer driver and a volunteer helper. The main role of the driver is the safe driving of the vehicle, while the helper assists people with getting on and off the bus and with any incidents that may occur during the journey. The driver may also assist with clients as is needed.

You will need a calm temperament and the ability to get along with a range of people, and be rewarded by providing a service which is much valued and appreciated by the people you will be helping.

We provide regular training opportunities and social get-togethers for our volunteers.

What expenses do I get paid?

We pay reasonable costs incurred in travelling from your home to the bus depot, and an allowance for refreshments if volunteering on a social outing. If you drive for the Lunch Club, you are welcome to stay for lunch.

When will I work?

We operate our buses at set times and you can pick journeys that work around your other commitments.

What are the requirements to join?

The application process involves a DBS and refence check, and an accompanied drive with our in-house driving assessor.
